Things you might find not find interesting but I am going to tell you anyways:
My teaching past:
My interests and traveling:
- I love to fly kites, watch kites be flown, make kites, even just see kites. Something about seeing such a thin piece of material hold up against the winds and mother nature yet look so incredibly awe inspiring and beautiful takes my breath away.
- Masks scare me. Don't get me wrong - I love Halloween, but masks make my heart beat fast and my imagination run wild. It was probably that time at universal studies in the House of Horror that really did it in for me :P
- In my wallet you will find a letter my father scribed for me when I lost my first tooth addressed to the tooth fairy.
- I am a citizen of the earth and my dream is to one day build and live in an earth ship.
- I was part of a team that dreamed of a community garden existing at the University of Lethbridge and helped realize this dream and went on to manage it for several years.
My teaching past:
- I graduated from the University of Lethbridge, but did not start there.
- I began at SIAST (Saskatchewan equivalent of SAIT), and worked in the financial industry for a few years. This was before the recession when selling money was everyone's business. A few years of this was enough to convince me that while I am passionate about politics and global impact and consequences from North American decisions, I ventured through several paths of learning and lessons before I made the decision to enter into teaching. It is really that working with youth is the most inspiring and biggest motivator for me to be an active participating member of society.
- While at the U of L, I did a semester in Malaysia at the Technology University. There I took classes and volunteered for the Women's Aid Association. I also taught while over there. Classes were often with over 200 students all males in a very small space (think - Connaught Library...).
- I also did a semester at the Université Laval in Québec City. Any reason to live in Québec is a good one for me!
- Since moving to Medicine Hat, I have taught at St. Mary's, where I began to fall in love with Medicine Hat - mostly that much debated and controversial bridge - gets me every time I see it all lit up at night with an icy river.
My interests and traveling:
- Naturally, I love to travel. It isn't so much about getting away as it is about learning about the place I am going. I like to go with little knowledge and ask lots of questions while away.
- Every summer I take advantage of my time and immerse myself somewhere new and learn as much as I can, sometimes that somewhere is even inside of a book or learning new skills right here at home.
- Most recently - I traveled to Costa Rica and volunteered at a Nature Conservation. This was a site rescued by WWF (world wildlife foundation).
- As mentioned before, I traveled South East Asia and learned a lot about the customs and traditions of other religions and people. An important place in our world considering their global position.
- Of course, I have traveled much of Canada and lived in 6 of the 10 provinces.
- And lastly, (for now), I have spent a great deal of time seeing the massive and widely different landscapes across the USA. With some of my favourites being San Clemente, California and Moab, Utah.
