Today we worked on our paragraph writing skills. We know the parts of speech and now we are working on developing our paragraphs into interesting and full paragraphs, rather than partial thoughts. Full sentences are tricky (and sometimes must seem like a waste of time...like...doesn't everybody know what I am talking about already, why do I have to have full thoughts, , alas, apparently complete sentences come in handy at some point in life. We spent time working through topic sentences and determining what information is relevant.
Great work room 30! Wow ! We rock at bringing school spirit! I must say I love showing up to school and seeing so many people supporting stopping bullying. We didn't have a lot of time, other than our assembly to talk about this today however, as we were sooo busy! We will though. Today we worked hard on our social studies and even threw in some math and language arts today! We researched and read and created our projects. We also got into our spelling groups and came up with as many ways as we could think of to organize our spelling words - adjectives, nouns, verbs/ syllables / alphabetically / sounds... unreal work mes amis! The development and maturity of students' work now a days in comparison to the beginning of the year is outstanding! I am so proud of the work we do. Today we worked on blurting and were much better than yesterday. We will continue to work on not interrupting and waiting our turn. Our multiplication has come a long way as well! Impressed. hey There Friends! It has been awhile! But we are back into the swing of things and finishing up assignments from before the break so we can break into some new and exciting stuff! Today we worked hard on our social studies ... some amazing projects have come out... We also are learning about how Alberta came to be and naming the six regions of Alberta. This week get ready to dive into paragraph writing so we can start writing some epic stories and digitize them. i gave students the task today to think about how we could be using our technology devices in the classroom. I came back from convention with a lot of ideas but what to hear what they think firstly. Yes, we will have a technology day, and perhaps make it far more regular however I am asking for parent and student input. Later this week I will be sending home a note about this - asking students to search out their top three educational apps (i always like math apps but there are lots of other good ones out there for free). All they need to do at this point is write them down on the paper once discussed with you and then they of course can name their top 2. The catch is that I would like them to try to be multiplayer. If not, no big deal. More to come on that this week. Homework tonight is to find your ten most difficult words from the lists 13 - 17 - write them neatly on a lined piece of paper with your spelling list colour at the top and your name. Well our party came and went and every party I think I am getting a bit better at managing the organized chaos of it all.
So we finished up our Social studies projects in the am and they look stellar I might add! (pictures to follow when I get home to charge my ipad) We finished our valentines day projects which - again, I say this all the time about kids painting - is definitely my favorite thing. If I had one I would probably hang it because they are so incredible! We did some research on the olympics and of course watched the mens hockey game. Super fun day to end a super fun week! Thank you grade three and four for being so amazing! True Story! We had a torch bearer in our school today - and she shared her story of how she ended up carrying the Olympic flame for 6 minutes. All of us got to hold it as well, although not while lit.
Super fun past few days - first at the hill with the grade fours and of course being back is always fun. Got to do some painting today. Once again, I am reminded how much work it is not to paint but to clean up paint - nevertheless it does not discourage me to paint as I think it is super fun and beautiful. Kids paintings are probably among my favorite things, and this project turned out beautifully with the artists we have in this classroom. Well friends, it is February and we have finished our first unit on multiplication and division. As I promised you, it would get hard and homework is important - or class work. Finishing it and making sure you are doing your own work.
I have prepared for you another set of questions we will work on before the break and throughout the break I hope you take some time to memorize your multiplication table. I know you are all very capable and the next units are quite fun, however we need to master these facts. (I promise you that in the far distant future - at some point in your education - you will be very thankful you know these and you aced em in 2014). This week we are doing Olympic activities. We have done some research - learning about other countries, keeping a tally of medals, and doing some writing activities. We are even going skiing (or a select few awesome ones - snowboarding) this week. Then to finish off the week I am hoping to have a special presenter come in! Today Kristin came and talked to us about communication - about speaking and listening. Our ponies and bicycles were worth talking about that's for sure. Mme tried desperately to start a valentine's art project - however, due to indoor recesses we were unable to get focused and get out some paint. Well Friends! It has finally arrived. The long awaited beautiful new carpet for our classroom. Not only does it fit all of us but it smells and feels wonderful. Thanks to a friend for the donation and the work he put in to helping our classroom be more comfortable. When I was a kid I loved doing everything on the floor, so working on a nice carpet I can totally appreciate. Thanks :) Today we did lots... Grade fours learned about light and how it always goes in a straight line. Then we learned about convex and concave and the focal point that inverts images. We began drawing this to demonstrate our understanding and I saw some amazing journalling. Visual journals are probably my favorite thing that has happened this year! |
