Awesome work grade threes and fours!
Wow! amazing what students can write and see when out of the element of the classroom! I saw some super intense students drawing, or sketching, and labeling their pictures. We wrote/sketched for 12 straight minutes, some finished a minute or two prior but still let the others finish their work. This was an awesome time. Yes, it is important to learn to write full sentences and grammar but it is also a very important skill to be able to see what is right in front of us and let the rest fall away and find more and more details. It is also very important for us to be aware of our surroundings and become part of them.

Wow! Pretty awesome day! Pretty awesome week! I mean, I haven't even had time to write! It is just so crazy in here this past few days. So! Last week was goal setting. That was awesome! We all set some pretty awesome goals and reflected on where we are at with this new year upon us. Grade Fours are monitoring their water use and on their THIRD day of writing down the numbers for this. Today we did an awesome art project with les hiboux! We used paint sponging, and soft pastels to blend. Then we drew the dark shadows of bats, owls and branches onto our page. They look absolutely stunning! I mean, these art projects turn out better than I could ever imagine each time. We had a few students who learned the value of art and that sometimes we don't plan for it to go a certain way but a mistake takes our project in a new direction and it turns out to be a masterpiece! I am so proud of how this class really brings each other up !! I have your Flat Stanley Photos and we are going to work on writing some amazing sentences this coming week so our journal entries are outstanding. These photos look unreal! So cool! If you haven't already brought your photos from Thanksgiving please make sure to do that or to send them to Mme :) I will miss you all tomorrow as I will be at We Day! I hope I can take some of you one day :) that would be AWESOME!!! ...if you can imagine...suddenly 19 students planking... the smile that came to my face! This is what life is made of... moments where we are laughing and feeling good... it is also what makes our brain ready for learning because we are suddenly happier. And it is so very simple. ... these students are brilliant and it is definitely because they are capable of enjoying little moments in the day and knowing when to get back to work. Thank you for that mes amis.
Well! Man... it sure is weird to be away for even a morning. It is by far the most amazing feeling to come to work and get greeted the way I do after a morning away. I don't think that there are many places that this happens and I am definitely grateful for what I get to experience. Yes, some days are loud or trying but the reality is that I love being in this room with these students, and when I am away I wonder how things are going and I arrive back in the classroom to stories and hugs and high fives and it is pretty awesome. I get asked if we can go outside and I say yes if we can run around the posts, and students are so faithful that some that didn't do it, went back and did it.
This morning students worked hard in Math - so hard in fact that they are ready for a math quiz Monday morning. Students also worked on their novel study projects and I see many of them are ready to be played or are almost ready. This afternoon we just shared stories and watched some awesome panda videos because sometimes it is nice to chill together too, and be comfortable. We worked on listening (it's an ongoing process). We did a mad minute in math and did awesome! We ran outside and then we Featured our first student! I look forward to featuring all of you as you are all so cool! I hope you left feeling as happy as I feel because it makes me so excited to come back Monday morning. I can only hope that is what you feel! Practise xtramath - practise your math facts, and your numbers in french please please. I love when the end of the day comes and students still have things to tell me... and don't rush out! It's a pretty cool feeling! It is sometimes hard to get back into the swing of things after a long weekend but I think we did pretty successfully here!
We did our spelling test, we worked on finishing up some art projects and we dived a little further into science. We are both almost finished our first unit which means a review and a test is likely around the corner. Today we learned about Red Wiggler Worms and compost. Don't forget about goal setting this week and a Fun Family Dance Friday! Wow ! What a day! I felt like it just flew by! Something happens around this time of the year... the year just starts to totally disappear! I didn't even finish my morning coffee we were going to fast today!
I think the most exciting thing today was exchanging Flat Friends to take with us on our long weekend! Don't be a boring flat friend and do nothing ...and if you do nothing, make sure your Flat Friend gets to at least come with you so they don't get bored or scared. Journal entries and pictures are due Tuesday :) We watched and learned about Stuff ... The story of stuff. Extraction, production, distribution, consumption, and elimination - pretty crazy. Next week we'll talk more about our part and solutions. I may even bring in some creepy crawlies to help us learn about this (as close to a pet as I will ever get). ..We did some three digit by three digit addition - by estimating first. And we started to classify our rocks! Wow! Super full day! I missed our goodbyes at the end of the day but I hope you are all having a stellar long weekend already! See you Tuesday!--- Picture DAY!!!! Today we worked on rounding numbers by doing a cake walk around numbers - when the music stopped Mme would call out a number and we had to decide if we were closest. Some of us just walked around in circles, perhaps unsure I was even stopping the music. For the most part I think we have now nailed our rounding to the closest dizaines In art this afternoon, by drawing leaves, we worked on blending fall colours and perspective by putting the leaves in front of or behind others. Alphabetical Order is still hard for us. Make sure you know your alphabet so this is easier. Grade threes talked about Rock Properties. They need to be bringing 3 to 5 rocks to school tomorrow for us to sort and classify. Grade fours took a personal inventory of how wasteful they are. If anything this has made them aware of the amount of waste we make, but doing simple things like buying products with less plastic. Our homework today is to find 5 pieces of "garbage" and decide what materials it is made of, if it is cWhat is garbage made of Well Another week has arrived! And here we go! So today grade threes learned about the three types of rocks (do you remember what they are??) Tomorrow I may be asking you about these!!!! We learned how the three rocks are formed using Crayon shavings (since currently we are all obsessed with pencil shavings for whatever reason!). Grade fours diligently worked on spelling while I worked with Grade Three's. Tomorrow I will be doing Grade Four Science - I am sorry we didn't get there today, but today we spent a lot of time reviewing how to listen and be responsible. So this is one of our pillars - to be responsible and it is not my responsibility to check your desk for your work - you need to be accountable to your books and your homework. Please make sure you are checking your agendas for homework and making sure it gets home and back to school.
We are finishing our hand zentangles and hoping to start the next part art project which will be fall related - since autumn is my favourite season after all. No math help until the 15th - as tomorrow I am unavailable after school. Well, yes it does help that a large portion of the day was spent raising money running for the flood victims, however i always find the energy on Friday is unlike any other...among everyone.
So...meanwhile at the school we learned how to use a fantastic web program and made some videos about the adventures of our Flat Stanley's. We also learned an awesome French Verb song - for remembering the endings to REGULAR verbs ending in ER - I hope you can sing it for everyone this weekend :) We had our first little quiz in Math to be signed and corrected on a separate piece of paper this weekend. To follow that is my offer that there will be Math Help every Tuesday from 3 until 4 - one on one. If you need further information please contact me via email or phone. You do not need to commit every week for the rest of the year, but I encourage those that feel they could benefit to come. Please just put a note in the agenda if you will be attending. Yes - it is true! I am having a math quiz tomorrow morning! In the event you were unable to read your writing in your agenda of what you were suppose to write down - I have graciously provided it in this post...but don't get too comfortable - this won't always be the case. Today we worked very hard on very attentive listening - as at best I had a whisper. I was definitely not appreciative when I had to raise my voice as it was extremely painful. Thank you for your patience grade threes and fours - you are truly amazing students! One student felt a sub coming on and said...no no we'll be quiet, stay even without a voice which was probably a highlight of my day! So thank you. Tomorrow a few students will not be running...but we will be doing something super awesome so bring your awesomeness and a positive attitude because you will be working hard by helping me set an example for the rest of the class of whats to come! Have a rocking evening and maybe if we all save our voices tonight I might get mine back... although I am not too sure that anyone but me is minding it haha! Today we catered to Mme's absent voice - yes it seems as though 4 weeks in I have lost my voice completely. So this morning we worked quite independently. We finished our novels in both grades and chose a final project. In the pictures you can see us reading around the classroom. And working on all sorts of different projects. I am pretty stoked to see what you produce. I see we will be playing some awesome games, reading a comic version of the book, seeing some technology inputs, and some awesome posters. You will have class time to finish this -- provided you use your time wisely. If you are not using it wisely I will take that as a cue that we need to move on and it will be sent home. This afternoon we had a stellar start to our presentations of famous Albertan's. So for the past few weeks you have been researching and creating great questions and demonstrating your knowledge through the format of an interview - as though you are interviewing that 'celebrity'. I was blown away by the quality of the presentations, especially in front of all your peers. You spoke loudly and clearly in beautiful French, when you didn't know a word, you asked me beforehand - which is very impressive of your ability to take control of your own learning. After each presentation we showed appreciations for eachother and what it was that we liked about the presentation. I appreciate what great listeners you were and the effort you put into the presentations - with voices, actions and props! What a great start to the year in terms of hard work! So cool!
