Yes! It is true. Winter holidays are on their way. And with that comes a bit of excitement in the classroom and perhaps shorter attention spans.
We are currently finishing up our unit on fractions in math. We will be introduced to multiplication before holidays (so you can memorize your multiplication table:P ) and finishing up our unit on Tunisia and mapping. I have seen some awesome Treasure Island maps, with outstanding directions. As in every day, we do some grammar, focusing on boring nouns - common and proper, les déterminants, and singular and plural. Make sure you understand these so our basic writing functions are all mastered for the new year. I look forward to seeing some Prezi's and Lapbooks this week! Those of you that need to finish up your Travel brochures at home - you need to do that this week as they will be due Monday. Lets work hard and then next week we can have a bit of a party for the last day of school :) .. check out this fun interactive image a student made: Interactive Image Reward for finding the blog hacker...
perhaps someone who enjoys the odd jelly bean??!!! So by now we should all be reading at least 15 minutes a day, and my expectation is 4 days a week (sort of like exercise for the brain - need to do it consistently in order to benefit). Having said that, I asked for at least 240 minutes in either language for the month of November. I offered up a pizza party to the class if Everyone achieved this goal as well as their own personal goal set by themselves. As you can see ... many accepted my challenge and read-on! I am so proud of you all for finding something you enjoy reading and kicking back every now and then with a good book. We didn't quite hit our goal, but we will keep trying. December should be a breeze to do this with all your free time and cold days. My favorite thing to do is to read a book on a cold snowy day, wrapped in blankets with the curtains open so I can see it happening and still be warm. Next to that - I also enjoy going for walks at night time when the snow is peacefully falling. It feels like stars falling from the sky, walking through clouds. don't forget - dream catchers this week! Skating next week! Feature student on Friday as well :) |
