It's Easter! I hope everyone has a great holiday. remember to take photos!
Today while watching a movie, students worked on their math project. The first concept is Pointillism - the point representing decimals and place value. Students had the choice to work on it, and as you can see, many students are busily working on their beautiful pieces of art. I am absolutely blown away!!!

This morning we had a presentation about Alberta and its history. Zane came to talk to us and told us many personal stories and shared lots of artifacts with us. We had lots of questions... lots of students really thinking analytically about what Zane had to say! It was another extremely busy day, but not to worry, we still fit Gym in there! Tomorrow I think I'll bring my runners, since I couldn't run away fast enough from anyone in dodgeball today! Tomorrow is a pyjama day! You worked hard for your day to chill, so enjoy it! I hope to see stuffies and fuzzy slippers! And we will be watching Hop in the afternoon. But shhhhh... I haven't told anyone yet ;) Well, one more day then Easter holidays and then... when we get back it is a week at Medalta! Wow! What a fun time to be in grade 4!! A demain mes amis! Today we learned a bit more about the three types of levers! Tonight I am asking you to classify the pictures in your blue booklet. If your drawings aren't clear - you can find them here, like we discussed on the board. I also ask that you find levers you use in every day life. Today was role reversal day! Wow! What a fun day! It is so much fun to just kick back some days and laugh! The students definitely laughed at me, especially when that pie got me right square in the face! Hmmm... I hope I haven't upset a whole bunch of lil people - because there were a lot of pies aimed at me! Thanks to those who dressed up! You definitely made my day... I will never forget how much fun we have in this classroom! Congrats to our stars today as well... ! Stars are always so hard because you are all stars in my eyes! I think you are all so amazing and see amazing things every day! Have an awesome weekend friends. I think I left you pretty homework free... I do want you to read your scripts for Francais and we will perform next week! You all rock!!! Google Drive Pictures: Today we learned how to add photos to our google drive! This is to be done for holiday pics (if any are taken) so we can create an animoto movie. We will also be using this for adding photos for creating a photo story - which can be done at any time. Cinquain: We learned about cinquain's - and started writing some poems and illustrating them. Man, the imaginations in this class are unbelievable! If these kind of creative minds keep active over the years - I think our future is in good shape! We also began our math art project where we learned about Pointilism - and tomorrow we will be flying to the art institute of Chicago to pic an art project that inspires us. Boy! It was a super filled day... seems like it flew by... again! What an amazing experience! This is my first conference of this kind! It was great to see so many families, and to see how proud students are to show what they know and what they are doing. The evening takes a bit of time, but that kind of learning just can't be told through a report card so I am very excited about it!
Thank you to all that joined us last night, and I will see you tonight if you weren't able to make it. I will be sending home Parfait Wednesday order forms, they will be for every last Wednesday of the month (March, April, May) - order forms are due the Monday before. If there are any others that can volunteer for Medalta - Thursday is the day I need people. The other days I have other arrangements that should work out, otherwise, I may have some great, ambitious college students willing to help out! ...ps... thanks for reading :) Simple machines to simply amazing! Today we wrote a few quizzes, we worked on our math multiplication lapbook and learned about how to make a more entertaining way to share our pictures. I am encouraging students, that if while away on vacation, they have the opportunity to take some pictures, they too can make a little video to show the class their adventures, even if their adventures take them as far as Ross Glen. The video is fun and easy and, like many things technology related - any computer skills are skills of the future! So if you bring back a usb key with up to 25 pictures, mid april we will take a technology break and make some fun videos to share. I have set up an account for all the students in my education account so content can remain private. Students also watched a clip about simple machines - they need to know the 6 types of simple machines... do you know them? Hey - here's an interesting fact - tomorrow and thursday you can come check out how awesome we all are here in Grade 4! Hope to see you then! Well friends, I am back! What a day it was! We were extremely busy. I am so sorry I am not writing until 8pm! If you are as tired as me, you should already be sleeping!
I am so happy to be back and not sick in bed anymore! I look forward to these next two weeks. They will be busy but fun! This week is student led conferences where students will show off how awesome they are. I have a format they will follow but then, just as we do every day here - they will add their own spice to the evening. I hope everyone can make it either Wednesday 1730 - 2000 OR Thursday 1530 - 1800. No appointments necessary just come as you can. This week we will be diving head first into simple machines! We will be talking about wheels, axles, inclined planes, levers and pulleys! And of course, Gears! We will also be doing AREA! Please make sure you are still working on your multiplication. And i know it is a lot but XTRAMATH.ORG! We should all be masters of addition and subtraction and moving onto other operations however you need to be practising this! If you have some free time in the day you can be doing this as well. ... in other news - ... .. I am looking forward to seeing you all this week! Have a good night :) I'm so sorry friends I have been away for what seems like a long time to me. I have been feeling quite ill and while you are all very brave and come and see me when you are ill, I am not able to get much energy. I trust you are in good hands however. I have left a detailed outline of the day on the board tonight and hope it will guide you through your day. I hope you are still using lots of French and that you will remember me when I am better and back.
I have posted the new spelling and dictée lists. I also ask, in advance, that you work on your math homework i have assigned - in the yellow booklet, and do your french reading you are going to do. Don't forget your library books! Also - those little booklets on natural resources you have been working on - please make sure to get started on the other two - as all three will be due, coloured and complete - Monday! Have a good days friends! Well mes amis, I just not able to fight off what ever it is I have picked up. I thought I could do it today but I must leave! Today you learned all about light from an expert at 20/20 vision - Dr. Hyde. He did a great job presenting in french. More so - you were great listeners and learners! Always appreciated.
This afternoon you will work on learning the natural resources of Alberta - another key component to before we head to Medalta Potteries. This weekend - feel free to closely examine the map of alberta and know your cities, rivers, and regions. Also - if you would like to do some object based viewing - on any old paper - go for it! We will glue it into the portfolio when you get back on Monday. ... bonne fin de semaine! |
